Heritage and Healing

Welcome to “Heritage and Healing,” a new series from the Mental Health Association in New York State (MHANYS). This series explores the critical connection between cultural heritage and mental health. Through personal stories and expert insights, we will examine how our cultural identities influence our mental well-being, resilience, and healing. At MHANYS, we recognize the importance of honoring the diverse backgrounds that shape who we are, and “Heritage and Healing” aims to foster understanding and support as we navigate mental health challenges together.

African American Men and Mental Health

Living Behind the Mask

Stigma is a major factor in keeping people from seeking help for their mental health. And when it comes to African American men, this is even more pronounced. We explore these topics as well as some of the innovative approaches that are being utilized to reach out to African American men to support their emotional and mental wellbeing.
