There is an annual fight in Albany in regard to Prescriber Prevails in the budget.
Consistently the State takes out the Prescriber Prevails language. The logic of which makes no sense.
Is there anyone in healthcare that thinks that the final determination of an individual with mental health issues medication regime should be handled by an insurance company as opposed to a medical professional?
The medication for mental health related issues are incredibly complicated and no two medications work alike. There is also no cookie cutter approach to an ideal medication for an individual. Restricted formularies are not the answer. The answer is to have the individual in discussion with their medical professional determine the appropriate medication.
We have a very supportive legislature that has always added back prescriber prevails in the budget. Unfortunately, we need them to again fight to include this in the budget.
It will certainly be a MHANYS priority in the budget.
