Since MHANYS was established over 65 years ago, our mission has been to provide mental health literacy throughout communities across New York State. Mental health literacy is defined as ‘knowledge and beliefs about mental health disorders which aid their recognition, management and prevention’.
With one in five people in our coutry struggling with a mental health issue (and if you add loved ones and friends), we are all impacted. Yet even in this day and age, less than a quarter of people seek treatment. Only by raising the mental health literacy of all New Yorkers will the stigma and isolation end.
In recent years, we have ramped up our work on mental health literacy through innovative and relevant training with the MHANYS School Mental Health Resource and Training Center, our work in Teen, Youth and Adult Mental Health First Aid, our work with First Responder Training and our Care Path Trainings.
Over the last four years, we have trained well over 21,000 New Yorkers with these trainings…All with the single minded goal of improving their mental health literacy.
