09/13/2022 – Governor Hochul’s First Annual Disability Rights and Employment Awareness Month (DREAM) Symposium – October 4, 2022

In honor of National Disability Employment Awareness Month (NDEAM), you are cordially invited to attend *Governor Hochul’s First Annual Disability Rights and Employment Awareness Month (DREAM) Symposium.* The goal of this event is to acknowledge the rights that people with disabilities are
entitled to, highlight the extreme value that disabled New Yorkers bring to the workforce and also assist in matching prospective qualified candidates with employers who believe that a diverse workforce is an empowered,
quality workforce. The highlights of our inaugural, two-day event will include:· An *in-person* *vendor fair* *on Tuesday, October 4th*, to which we are welcoming dozens of state agencies, not-for-profits, service providers and advocacy associations that will provide information about their mission and services that they provide.

· Four workshops of interest to New York’s disability community, most specifically pertaining to the improvement of the low employment rate of people with disabilities.

· A disability history exhibit.

· Entertainment.

· A *virtual job fair on Tuesday, October 11th*, to which we are inviting dozens of state agencies and private companies, all of whom we recognize as model employers of people with disabilities. There will be a preview day on Monday, October 10th.

We strongly encourage you to join the newly created Office of the Chief Disability Officer, in collaboration with the New York State Department of Labor, Office of Civil Service, Office for People with Developmental Disabilities, Office of Mental Health, the State Education Department and the Office of Children and Family Services as we launch a multi-pronged
approach to significantly improve the alarmingly low employment rate of people with disabilities. If you are interested in attending, please register by Sunday, October 2, 2022

We hope you’re eager to learn about the programs and services offered by many incredible organizations, learn more about both the rights afforded to people with disabilities and all of the work the Hochul administration and several other organizations have been doing to significantly improve the employment rates of disabled New Yorkers. Please register today!

If you have any questions, please either call 518-474-2261, or email us at accessibility@exec.ny.gov. We look forward to seeing you on October 4th!
