03/29/2022 – Rutgers Center for Alcohol and Substance Abuse Studies: Participants Needed – Developing a Culturally Relevant Wellness Model for Young Black Adults!

Participants Needed: Developing a Culturally Relevant Wellness Model for Young Black AdultsPrincipal Investigator (PI): Margaret Swarbrick, PhD

Co-Principal Investigator (co-I): Crystal L. Brandow, PhD

Contact: Crystal L. Brandow, crystal.brandow+study@rutgers.edu

We are interested in creating a wellness model informed by the lived experience of young Black adults that may, in the future, be integrated into mental health, substance use, and trauma peer led wellness programs to potentially improve well-being outcomes among this population.

We are recruiting participants to provide feedback on a newly developed wellness model, created for and by young Black adults. You don’t need to be a researcher to offer ideas.

Eligible participants will join two Zoom sessions to receive presentations on the culturally relevant wellness model. Following each presentation, participants will respond to a survey to answer a series of questions pertaining to the model.

To be eligible for this study, individuals must:

1) be Black, including individuals identifying as Black from South America, Latin America, Africa, the West Indies, and other regions
2) be aged 18 to 39
3) have had or currently have concerns about their mental health or substance use
5) be able to provide informed consent
6) have access to a computer and internet connection

We are also seeking individuals who, in addition to the items above, are currently or are seeking to become peer providers. If you are interested in being considered, please contact co-I, Dr. Crystal L. Brandow, at crystal.brandow+study@rutgers.edu. Following a brief screening, eligible participants will be provided additional details.

Up to $80 (gift card) is available for participants. Please feel free to distribute this to any organizations or individuals who may be interested in contributing to this project. Thank you for your time and consideration!
