This past weekend, Channel 6 (the CBS affiliate in Albany) did a feature story on the mental health impact of COVID to parents of school-aged children. Sebrina Barrett, the Executive Director of ACL and a parent of two school aged children, was featured. She highlighted the resources of MHANYS School Mental Health Education and Resource Center.
From last year at this time to now, we have had over a 250 percent increase in visitors to our website and resources. Later today, Amy Molloy, the Director of the Program for MHANYS will be presenting to the NYS Board of Regents about the Resource Center and the work we are doing to educate students, families and educators about mental health in schools.
The need is greater than we have ever could imagine as reflected by the disproportionate number of young people and their parents impacted by the mental health impact of COVID. Both in New York and Nationally, we need to ensure greater funding and resources for mental health in schools.
