Mental Health Update

MH Update – 10-14-2021- Sign on to Support the Federal Medicaid Reentry Act by tomorrow at 10:00AM

Advocates have been fighting for years to insure that individuals in prisons and jails begin the community transition process thirty days before discharge. It makes complete sense that an individuals with a behavioral health issue should work with care managers to insure a plan of care that recognizes appropriate service and medication usage immediately upon discharge. It is a common sense solution that will dramatically diminish recidivism.

We urge your agency to support this provision in the Federal Medicaid Reentry Act. Information on signing on is below.

Thanks to our friends at Legal Action Center for their work on the Medicaid Reentry Act.

As a New York organization working to promote greater access to health and justice, please consider signing on to the below letter to Senate Majority Leader Chuck Schumer, urging his support for the federal Medicaid Reentry Act. The Medicaid Reentry Act would allow Medicaid to finance health care (including physical, mental health, and substance use disorder care) in the last 30 days of incarceration, improving continuity of care and health outcomes for people returning to the community from jails and prison in New York and around the country. As the Senate moves toward consideration of the Build Back Better budget reconciliation package, which currently includes the Medicaid Reentry Act, *we need Majority Leader Schumer to ensure the Medicaid Reentry Act is included in the final reconciliation package..

To sign on your organization to the below letter, please go to   forms.gle/oJAcNXXSd52K5pS49
The sign-on deadline is 10:00AM tomorrow October 15th**.* Please email Gabrielle de la Gueronniere (gdelagueronniere@lac-dc.org) with any questions. Thank you!
