While there continues to be delays in budget negotiations, we are also working on our legislative agenda. Among our top priorities are a Teacher and Administrators Mental Health Training Bill. This legislation sponsored by Assemblymember Kelles and Senator Fernandez provides a basic training about mental health to teachers and administrators across New York State. This bill does not in any way provide any mandates for teachers around mental health. They have incredibly difficult jobs and layering in expectations around mental health care would be a ‘bridge too far.’
This bill takes a common sense approach and would provide training in general mental health for all teachers and administrators.
