Today at MHANYS, we were honored to have Governor Hochul at our offices speaking about social media legislation. Through our work with schools and with Youth and Teen Mental Health First Aid, we have heard too many stories about the negative impact of social media to the mental health of young people. Numbers of young people with mental health before COVID were staggering but since COVID numbers have sadly grown dramatically. There are a lot of root causes for this dramatic upturn but few more insidious than the social media addictive algorithms. This legislation will play a major role in helping to reduce the impact of negative social media to young people.
