Eugene Perry, President, Firefighters Association of the State of New York (FASNY), is proud to partner with and join fellow first responders for MHANYS Mental Health Matters Day on March 11th.
The mental health and wellness of our first responders is paramount as they serve our communities every day, bearing witness to unimaginable emergencies and disasters. These repeated exposures to trauma have an impact on New York State’s 200,000 first responders, with a recent statewide assessment highlighting the toll, including 80% reporting negative impacts on home life and nearly a quarter reporting suicidal thoughts.
MHANYS has joined our first responder agencies in supporting efforts to establish and fund peer to peer support across New York State through the First Responder Peer Support Program Act.
Let’s stand together for those who spend their lives protecting others.
