Advocates Press Conference Calling for a 2.7% Targeted Inflationary Increase (TII) for Behavioral Health and the Human Services Sector

Yesterday at the State Capitol, MHANYS joined behavioral health and human services advocacy organizations and providers to send a loud and clear message: the final state budget must include a 2.7% Targeted Inflationary Increase for the sector. We appreciate that the Executive Budget included a 1.7% TII, but we are requesting that an additional 1% be added to reach the 2.7% TII in the final budget. This is the minimum needed to match the current rate of inflation.

As we contend with a mental health crisis, particularly among our youth, ongoing workforce shortages, and rising programmatic and operational costs, the 2.7% TII is more imperative than ever to help sustain the critical care and programs provided by the community-based not-for-profits. The powerful stories shared at yesterday’s press conference, from advocates, providers, peers, and family members, highlighted the work they do every day to support the mental health and wellness of New Yorkers and their families.
