Mental Health Update

07/7/2022 – Less then 10 days to implementation of 988

As we soon begin 988 implementation in New York, we wanted to provide several resources to help anticipate early implementation and public awareness. Listed below are attachments from OMH in regard to the beginning of the role out of 988. More to come in the future.

988: More than a Number

988 is the new, three-digit number for the National Suicide Prevention Lifeline (NSPL). 988 will be available nation-wide on July 16, 2022. Until then, you should call the NSPL (1-800-273-8255) if you or someone you know is in crisis.

988 is more than just an easy-to-remember number. It is a direct connection to caring support for anyone in mental health distress. This may include:

– thoughts of suicide
– substance use crisis
– emotional distress

988 is a free service available to everyone. You can contact 988 by chat, text, or phone. Access support in Spanish by pressing 2. Interpretation services are available in over 150 languages.
