A Conversation about Meeting the Needs of Frontline Workers: Addressing the Great Resignation
The COVID-19 Pandemic has resulted in many workers across sectors of the economy including the mental health field to leave the workforce. The attrition across service sectors has been referred to as the Great Resignation, which is occurring during a time of increasing mental healthcare needs, also resulting from the COVID-19 pandemic. The Great Resignation among frontline workers represents a public mental health crisis for children, youth and adults and requires concerted efforts to address. According to the Pew Research Center (2022) some of the factors contributing to the record high attrition include low pay, lack of opportunities for advancement and a lack of empathy or feeling disrespected at work. This Mental Health Moment will focus on the Great Resignation among frontline workers. Our featured speaker, Glenn Liebman of the Mental Health Association of New York State (MHANYS), has been working to collect data to understand the factors contributing to the Great Resignation. He will share this information and will provide recommendations for supporting
frontline workers.
