Mental Health Update

11/17/2022 Some High Ranking State Officials Have Announced that they are Leaving their Position in January including OCFS Commissioner Sheila Poole and Budget Director Robert Mujica

Longtime friend of MHANYS, OCFS Commissioner Sheila Poole announced that she is leaving in January.  Commissioner Poole has been a strong advocate for children and has a great understanding of the impact of mental health and trauma to young people and their families. She has always been a willing listener and internal advocate around family engagement as evidenced by her strong support of MHANYS Care Path.  She has left a strong legacy and will be a real loss to New York State.

Robert Mujica, New York State Budget Director, is leaving New York State to take a position as the new Executive Director of Puerto Rico’s Federal Control Board. As budget director, he was one of the most influential people in State Government across all sectors. There were several funding initiatives related to mental health during his tenure, most notably around the 5.4% COLA in last year’s budget, funding for housing, and funding support for mental health in schools, among a litany of other initiatives.  We wish him the best of luck in his new position.
