06/28/2022 – Download Mental Health America’s BIPOC Mental Health Month Toolkit Today!

MHANYS National Organization, Mental Health America, has put out a toolkit around BIPOC Mental Health. I highly recommend downloading the material. Between the easily understood statistics and the proposed recommendations, this is a very powerful document.

Mental Health America is pleased to announce that our 2022 BIPOC Mental Health Month toolkit is out today and we will be officially kicking off our social media campaign on 7/1! Go to mhanational org/july  or click below to download the toolkit. You can also find actionable ways to support BIPOC communities and honor the legacy of Bebe Moore Campbell, the

pioneer whose advocacy and visionary work first led to July’s formal dedication to the needs of BIPOC communities in mental health beginning in 2008.

This year’s theme for Black, Indigenous, and people of color (BIPOC), Mental Health Month is #BeyondTheNumbers. Join us, and together we will gain knowledge of historical context, systems of support, and actionable ways to move forward toward a mentally healthy future.

#BeyondTheNumbers explores the nuances and uniqueness in BIPOC communities. Throughout the month of July, we will share on social media stories of individuals living with mental health conditions – people who want us to know more about who they are #BeyondTheNumbers. We invite each of you to share your stories too using the hashtags #BeyondTheNumbers and
#BIPOCMentalHealthMonth.

To move away from generalizations and focus on the uniqueness of individual communities, this year’s toolkit will break up the term BIPOC into six core
cultural categories:

· American Indian/Alaska Native
· Asian/Pacific
· Arab/Middle Eastern/Muslim/South Asian
· Black/African American
· Latinx/Hispanic
· Multiracial

Within each cultural category of this toolkit you will find information on historical context, barriers to well-being, cultural beliefs, strengths and resiliency factors, and calls to action. In addition, you can find sample social media posts, downloadable images, culture-specific resources, worksheets, and more!

We hope that you will join us as we celebrate BIPOC Mental Health Month this July and go #BeyondTheNumbers to learn more about BIPOC communities.
