Last night the Rapper Logic performed the song 1-800-273-8255 which is the number for the National Suicide Prevention Lifeline. The Lifeline is run in conjunction with the MHA-NYC. What an incredible way to raise awareness about suicide prevention to an entire generation. We applaud Logic for speaking out so dramatically in support of Mental Health Public Awareness and Suicide Prevention.

Def Jam Rap Artist Logic Performed His Hit Single “1-800-273-8255” at the MTV Video Music Awards

Yesterday, popular Def Jam rap artist Logic performed “1-800-273-8255,” named after the National Suicide Prevention Lifeline’s phone number, at the MTV Video Music Awards. 

The National Suicide Prevention Lifeline and MHA-NYC worked with Logic’s team to bring together 50 loss and attempt survivors to be part of the emotional live performance. 

The song, featuring Alessia Cara and Khalid, details the story of a suicidal individual who reaches out to the Lifeline and finds support and a reason to live. The song changes the conversation around suicide from one of despair to one of hope.

Logic visited MHA-NYC and spoke with President and CEO, Kimberly Williams, and National Suicide Prevention Lifeline Project Director, Dr. John Draper 

Around the time of the song’s release, Logic came to MHA-NYC to speak about his inspiration for the single and what the Lifeline means to him.
