Today is the last day of this year’s legislative session in Albany and we
need your help and support to get the Step Therapy bill passed in the
Assembly. Please follow directions below and take a minute to make a call.
Thank you.

Phone Calls Needed to Assembly Members Today

Due to all of your strong advocacy efforts throughout the session, the
State Senate passed our Step Therapy/ Fail First legislation yesterday! The
bill has also progressed to the Assembly floor. We just learned that the
health plans and some labor unions are now strongly opposing the bill and
telling the Assembly not to pass it. We need your help. We are asking
every coalition partner to ask your volunteer networks to please take the
following actions to get this bill passed this year:

TODAY: Albany Phone Calls– Please call the Albany offices of your
Assembly Member today and tell him/her the time is now to pass A2834D,
Titone without delay. You can use the Assembly switchboard to make these
calls: 518-455-4100 and we have provided talking points below.

To find out who your State Assembly Member is, please go to:

Talking Points for Phone Calls:

Hello, my name is … and I am a [constituent/affiliated with X
organization]. May I please speak to the [Assembly Member] or his/her
legislative aide?

· I am calling to request the passage of A.2834D, sponsored by
Assemblyman Titone this session. Yesterday it passed the Senate and the
bill is now on the Assembly floor.

· This is common-sense, pro-consumer legislation which includes
basic patient protections to improve the safety and efficacy of health
insurer step therapy (fail first) policies. This bill does not prohibit the
use of such policies, rather it ensures they are used appropriately by
providing an expedited and standardized appeals process.

· After six years of advocacy and several amendments to address
health insurer concerns, the bill is ready for passage.

· Time is of the essence for patients who are fighting a serious
disease or illness. Please let Assembly Speaker Heastie know this bill
must be passed before the session ends.

· Thank you!
