Today on the first day of Mental Health Awareness month, MHANYS held an
official ribbon cutting ceremony of our new Training Center. We thank
Albany Mayor, Kathy Sheehan, Albany County Mental Hygiene Director, Dr.
Steve Giordano (representing Albany County Executive Dan McCoy) Capital
Region Chamber of Commerce CEO, Mark Eagan, MHANYS Board Chair Jeff Rovitz
and other chamber members for helping to open the Center. Mayor Sheehan,
Dr. Giordano and Mr. Eagan spoke with great passion and knowledge about the
need for mental health services in Albany County recognizing the importance
of community services, working with law enforcement and early intervention
and prevention for adolescents.

At MHANYS, we believe the new training center is more than just a space,
it will be a hub of activities and trainings focused on ending the stigma
of mental illness through Mental Health Education in Schools, Mental Health
First Aid, Engagement and Family Support, Workplace Wellness, Suicide
Prevention and many other areas of need in the community. We also plan to
open up the Training Center for community conversations about mental health
and wellness and bringing in experts in the field to talk about these
issues.
