It was ten years ago today that Timothy’s Law was signed by then Governor
Pataki. Over the last decade, this law has had a positive impact for
thousands of New Yorkers and their loved ones impacted by mental illness.
Parity for mental health benefits with medical and surgical benefits has
created a sea change in insurance coverage and also in fighting the stigma
of mental illness.

That said, there are countless New Yorkers who are being denied parity
benefits because they don’t know what they are entitled to legally. Our
colleagues at the Legal Action Center have created a helpful resource guide
for behavioral health benefits under the federal parity law.

The link to the guide is attached.
