Person First Language

Event address for attendees:

Date and time:

Thursday, October 19, 2017 2:00 pm
Eastern Daylight Time (New York, GMT-04:00)

Duration: 1 hour 30 minutes

Person 1st Language emphasizes the person, not the disability. By placing
the person first, the disability is no longer the primary, defining
characteristic of an individual, but one of several aspects of the whole
person. People-First Language is an objective way of acknowledging,
communicating, and reporting on disabilities. It eliminates generalizations
and stereotypes, by focusing on the person rather than the disability. This
webex will teach participants about how Person First language can assist in
building an environment of recovery. Luciann Stalzer, the NYSOMH Regional
Advocacy Specialist for Long Island will be the presenter
